Elk Falls Provincial Park – Campbell River

BBQ Salmon on cedar plank
OMG this sockeye salmon was mouth watering

Camping amidst old growth forest

The Elk Falls Provincial Park is located just a few KM’s from the small town of Campbell River and provides excellent access to hiking trails in the area. The campground is quite large, offering 122 sites. There are no amenities other than drinking water and outhouses to be found here, thus keeping the nightly rate extremely low at $22 per night. The sites are very well spaced and extremely private. Our site was located on the  Quinsam River (#10) which provided us great views from our lawn chairs! We completed all of the local hikes within close proximity of our campground including the 25 metre high Elk Falls. If you like the outdoors and nature there is nothing you won’t like about this area! We heard on the local radio this morning that the first fish of the day yanked out of discovery passage this morning was a 32 pound Chinook salmon!! No wonder Campbell River is known as the Salmon Capital of the World!!

I’ve attached a few photos that truly capture the real beauty of this location. Hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed being here 🙂

Off to Port Hardy in the morning. Stay tuned for more adventures!
