What a relaxing drive from Fairmont Hot Springs to Kananaskis Country. We took our chances and travelled through the forest fire on Hwy 93 between Radium Hot Springs and Castle Junction. We were fortunate the road stayed open. Once we forged through the flames (well not exactly but the smoke was sure thick!) the sky totally cleared off once we hit Banff. You definitely know you’re in the Rockies as the temperature has dropped from the mid 30’s in Fairmont to the mid 20’s here in Kananaskis (no A/C needed tonight!) It’s a nice change as everything is so green and lush here in the park. Had a great hike along the Bow River and got some great photos of the scenery along the way. If you are looking for a great campground 1 hour east of Calgary, I would highly recommend Bow Valley Provincial Park. Sites are very large and they come equipped with 30A service and water. There’s no sewer but there is a no charge Sani Dump on the way out of the park.
Off to Calgary tomorrow!
